March 2015 Newsletter

March is the month for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, the 1st day of Spring and Palm Sunday. MonarchCare is also celebrating the many home health care agencies it partners with who help our clients remain independent, healthy, and safe. We especially want to recognize Alternative Home Health Care, which provides short and long term care for those we serve and is a Luncheon Sponsor for our upcoming Transforming Lives Luncheon on March 26th. Alternative Home Health Care is a company that values and respects its clients. But even more important, they value and respect their staff. The company knows that its most valuable resource is their dedicated work force who they view as their customers. Their philosophy is “if they are not happy, there is no way that their clients will be happy.” MonarchCare and our clients see the positive results of their philosophy daily!

March is also the month to celebrate the Health Information Professionals who work to keep us healthy, providing information and technical resources that help to maximize our quality of life. Health information professionals work in a variety of settings including hospitals, clinics, physician offices and many other organizations. They play a key role in the effective management of health data and medical records needed to deliver quality healthcare to the public. In today’s world of paperless medical records and cyber hacking, these individuals are key to the every changing healthcare field. See “Did You Know” for more information.

MonarchCare’s staff provide valuable health information for our clients and the community-at-large though our information and referrals services. Annually, more than 250 calls are received from those needing help with life management needs (benefits, care of their loved one, concern that someone they know is being abused). Calls are received from desperate individuals, family members, and health professionals who need help and are often dealing with emergency situations.

How We Help

Ruth L. is fortunate to be receiving loving care from MonarchCare and Alternative Home Health Care staff. Ruth was a Registered Nurse for many years in New York. When she moved to Florida she was in a very loving relationship with a man she met. They lived together for a number of years. The relationship declined as Ruth developed dementia. She came into the care of a local assisted living facility (ALF) because the authorities discovered that her significant other had been keeping her in the garage of their home where she slept on a urine soaked mattress. MonarchCare was engaged to oversee Ruth’s care, saw she was not receiving proper treatment and immediately moved her to another ALF that was smaller and able to provide individual attention. Over time, Ruth began to deteriorate rapidly as part of the natural progression of dementia so our care manager moved Ruth to a great skilled nursing facility that is keeping her comfortable and safe. Ruth also has a wonderful private caregiver from Alternative Home Health Care 3 days per week for socialization and her appetite has improved dramatically. Ruth enjoys the one-to-one attention she receives, especially when she is taken outside by her special caregiver, allowing her to soak up the sun, making a positive impact on her spirits and mood!

MonarchCare is a non-profit organization that relies on the generosity of individuals, foundations and corporations so it can fulfill its mission to support vulnerable individuals who need help with life management due to age, disability or family circumstance.

Donors, like you, are critical to our ability to serve our indigent clients in need of someone to keep them safe. Fundraising events are one way we showcase our services, build new and existing relationships and raise funds to support our mission.

MonarchCare is celebrating the 10th Transforming Lives Luncheon on March 26, 2015 at the Signature Grand. Our active Task Force Committee volunteers have been working for over 5 months, donating their time and talents to ensure this year’s event will be our best ever.

Health information management (HIM) is an allied health profession responsible for ensuring the availability, accuracy, and protection of the clinical information needed to provide healthcare-related decisions. Health information professionals work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, physician offices, and many other organizations. Serving more than 100,000 health information professionals, AHIMA is committed to advancing the HIM profession in an increasingly electronic and global environment through leadership in advocacy, education, certification, and lifelong learning. The health industry is evolving quickly, and AHIMA is working to advance the implementation and effective management of electronic health records by leading key industry initiatives and advocating for consistent standards.

Needs are evolving from simply translating data, to having instant access to intelligence that can drive clinical and administrative decision-making in real time.
