December 2013 Newsletter

Description: mental illness photo: MH-ribbon.gifHere we are in December; it just sneaks up and before you know it we are lighting Menorah candles (early this year), shopping for presents, planning family trips and hopefully smiling more.

This season is meant to bring joy and peace to all, but often brings stress and loneliness to many. Our Giving Tree project helps fill some of that void for our clients, with a special gift donated by those who support MonarchCare. If you participated this year, thank you for bringing a little joy to our clients’ lives! We wish you all a Wonderful Holiday and Happy and Healthy New Year!

Many people do not know that MonarchCare serves children and families with children. As you read below you will see how we reach out to all our clients young and old, not only during the holidays but all year-round. Your continued support helps up to accomplish this. In November we provided 281 hours of pro bono service, thanks to many of you!

How We Help

Just recently, one of our care management clients, Robert, completed his GED. This has been a long-time goal that Robert set for himself and has now achieved. Our Care Manager Sandi has been there for Robert and our team could not be any prouder of his accomplishment. Robert will not stop there and hopes to go on either to Broward College or Vocational Tech School for auto mechanics. We will be there for him the whole way.

How You Can Help

This year MonarchCare’s young clients and their family members, along with the clients of Hope Outreach of Davie, will be the recipients of toy donations collected by Leather Express in Plantation and the Plantation Rotary Club. When you bring a new, unwrapped toy to the Leather Express store on Sunrise Boulevard, you will not only receive $100 per toy, up to $700, off your furniture purchase, but you will be bringing joy into the lives of children who may otherwise not have a gift to open this season. MonarchCare loves to partner with other organizations and other non-profits to provide care and support to those in need. Thank you to Leather Express and the Plantation Rotary Club for their generous support.

Did You Know?

This season is beloved by children throughout the world.  By Resolution 836(IX) of 14 December 1954, the United Nations General Assembly recommended that all countries institute a Universal Children's Day, to be observed as a day of worldwide fraternity and understanding between children. It recommended that the Day also be devoted to promoting the ideals and objectives of the UN Charter and the welfare of the children of the world. The Assembly suggested to governments that the Day be observed on the date and in the way which each considers appropriate. The Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989. See the Children's Day website for more information on the UN’s efforts on behalf of children around the world.
